NASCAR has to pay its spinmeisters for something, so they reminded us at every turn their "Chase for the Championship'' was the closest points battle in Cup history. Tell that to Jeff Gordon, who would have been crowned the 2005 Nextel Cup Champion if the Chase didn't exist. Of course this year's championship should have been close since The Powers That Be "adjusted'' the top-10s' points after Round 26 and then staged a 10-race shootout for the Cup.
