BMW WILL ACQUIRE a majority holding in the Swiss-based Sauber Formula One team, and will rename it for the 2006 season. The German manufacturer purchased most of the stock held by team founder Peter Sauber and will obtain the remaining 62.35 percent of the shares from the Credit Suisse bank by the end of 2008.

Sauber will stay on as a consultant to the team. BMW Motorsport says it is willing to continue its relationship with the Williams team. However, Williams might have to pay for the new V8 engines required for 2006 and is known to be in talks with alternative suppliers, ...
