John Fitch wins Bob Akin award Former racing driver and safety innovator John Fitch, 88, received the annual Bob Akin award at the Labor Day Lime Rock Vintage Races. The award, given by the Road Racing Drivers Club, is intended for drivers and former drivers who memorialize the character and achievements of its namesake.

Akin was a winning road racer from 1959 to 2002, with the 1986 IMSA title and two Sebring 12 Hour wins to his credit. Akin died in 2002 from injuries sustained testing at Road Atlanta. Sam Posey and the late Charlie Gibson won the first two Akin awards, in 2003 ...
