The Champ Car World Series announced its new chassis and engine package slated to debut in 2007. The big change: The new chassis is more than a foot shorter, 3.5 inches narrower and 165 pounds lighter than the Lolas used since the series froze its specifications in 2001. The reasoning, according to Champ Car officials, is to provide teams with "a nimbler and quicker machine that will put driver skills at a premium.'' The turbocharged 2.65-liter Cosworth engine remains.
