KATZ The battle to save the Bridgehampton racetrack was lost in the late 1990s when would-be rescuer Bob Rubin caved in to intense pressure from encroaching homeowners and tore up the track to build a golf course. And yet more than a few residents of the Long Island hamlet of Bridgehampton cling resolutely to their town's motorsports tradition.
