Byline: Matt Davis During a CNN interview with Dominique de Villepin (a critic of U.S. policy on Iraq), prime minister of France, all-star interviewer Christiane Amanpour brought up the recent waves of violence throughout France. Amanpour started to ask a question regarding the riots. De Villepin cut in.

"These were not riots,'' he said. "More than 1000 buildings were destroyed by fire, 158 police were injured, but these were not riots such as you had in Los Angeles in 1992. More than 7000 cars were burned, yes, but no one died.'' That's what caught my attention. ...
