For some in the NASCAR media, the first impression of Kasey Kahne wasn't very reassuring. It came in January 2004, during the annual media tour visit to Evernham Motorsports in Statesville, North Carolina. "Deer in the headlights'' doesn't begin to describe how overmatched Kahne looked that night.
