Byline: Steven Cole Smith It's difficult to reinvent a 32-year-old racing series, but that's essentially what happened during the 2006 season of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship. Part of the appeal came from the successful combination of an all-new car, the Swift 016.a, powered by a new engine, the 300-horsepower, 2.3-liter Mazda-Cosworth four-cylinder, which replaced series sponsor and engine supplier Toyota.
