The war of the doors Responding to the idea of a four-door or wagon Mustang (News, Dec. 18): Ford did this to the T-Bird and it failed miserably, likewise the Cougar. Chrysler was successful with Charger because it created an exciting car. I heard complaints that it should be a coupe, but the style made it a success.

GM's only foray into adding doors that I remember was the Nomad. If Ford would rename and rebadge the sedan and wagon as Mavericks, that may work. Despite detractors of the Maverick, it was dependable and economical. Maybe there'll be another Shelby Maverick. Mark ...
