Byline: STEVEN COLE SMITH Part of the name of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge points to one big reason for the series' success in 2006: "Speed,'' as in "Speed TV.'' With the cable network as a presenting sponsor, the series is bound to get decent television coverage and frequent mentions on the company website.

And it wasn't as though the series didn't deserve it. Both classes-GT and Touring Car-had big, competitive fields all season long, and there's every indication that also will be the case in 2007. It's profoundly difficult for the SCCA to keep the variety of vehicles in each class even, but it does to a large degree, thanks to various penalties for fast cars and breaks for slow cars.
