With four of its vehicles named among the six finalists for 2008 North American Car and Truck of the Year, General Motors was positioned to claim an unprecedented back-to-back sweep of the coveted awards. It was not to be: GM won top car honors for the Chevrolet Malibu, and Mazda won the truck voting with its CX-9 crossover vehicle-the first win ever for a Mazda vehicle. The awards were announced Jan. 13 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
