Neither rain nor sleet nor dark of night could put up much of a challenge for our long-term Subaru Forester. Unfortunately, our sturdy boxer-powered all-wheeler was felled not by the elements but by its own engine.

Just a week shy of the Forester closing its third quarter in our fleet, a strange clicking noise started emerging from underhood. By the end of the day, that clicking had turned into a high-decibel knock, forcing us to head straight to the shop. Seven days later, the dealer returned the car to uswith a brand-new engine.
