High gas prices defy any quick fix The temptation for politicians to brew up a quick fix for soaring gasoline prices must be all but overwhelming. As pump prices tick upward into $3-per-gallon territory and $2.25 per gallon actually seems like a fond memory, elected officials become quickly and painfully aware of consumers' frustrations.
