In light of this week's arrest of an Alabama man on charges he sexually abused a Kaneland Middle School student he'd met over the Internet, school officials are planning a panel discussion to address the issue of Internet safety. And they also are strongly considering a change in the way students can view the world through the Web.
A 14-year-old girl who attends Kaneland Middle School carried on conversations with 37-year-old Michael B. Callihan of Glencoe, Ala., both at home and at school, school leaders say. That relationship, according to police, led to Callihan driving to Illinois and engaging in sex with the girl both in the parking lot of the school after hours and in a DeKalb motel.
