The clock is ticking for the Bulls to find a suitable deal before the NBA trade deadline strikes today at 5 p.m. The two most likely objectives for general manager Jerry Krause are to send newly acquired shooting guard John Starks to a contending team and clear more room under the salary cap by trading veteran guard Hersey Hawkins.

One scenario that seemed to be dead on Wednesday night was Hawkins to the Atlanta Hawks for Isaiah Rider. The Hawks have made no secret of their desire to unload the troubled Rider, who this season has missed team flights, skipped practices, been suspended for two games and piled up a reported $200,000 in fines.
