Elburn not only lost a stand-up law enforcement official Thursday with the death of police chief Edward Kelley but also a dear friend. "He was not your stereotypical police officer: He was this big strong guy with a heart of gold," Elburn Village President James Willey said. "He always cared so much what other people thought.
He was unbelievably sincere." Kelley - who spent more than 30 years in law enforcement including serving as chief in Elburn and previously North Aurora - lost his battle with cancer. He was 56. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in North Aurora. "He was just a really good man," Elburn officer Erich Schlachta said.
