College of Lake County's main concourse was filled with sounds of mousetraps snapping Monday afternoon - but there were no furry rodents around. Engineering students set off the traps not to catch mice, but to propel boats they had designed through a 2.75-meter-long trough of water. The mousetrap boat competition, sponsored by CLC's Engineering Club, featured the creations of 26 students who were competing for cash and gift certificates.
"This competition gives students the opportunity to consider the laws of physics they've been learning in class and apply them," said Patricia Gnadt, a faculty adviser for the club.
