Nancy Ntim hasn't let a little thing like a broken femur stop her. The North Central College junior, who spent most of her sophomore year on crutches, is back to ambulating on her own. She's doing so well, she'll be competing this afternoon at the NCAA Division III trials in the 4-by-100-meter relay, hoping to qualify for Saturday's finals.
"I'm ready for this," the 22-year-old athlete said Wednesday. "I knew I'd be able to come back." Ntim was at Brandeis University in Boston in March 1998 when it happened. She was competing in the long jump. "She was a freshman. That was her first indoor national meet.
