Palatine to unveil stamps in honor of black heritage.(Neighbor)

Byline: Michael Levine Daily Herald Staff Writer The Palatine post office is getting a stamp of approval from the U.S. Postal Service, which chose the Palatine office as its sole northern Illinois protege to unveil the 2001 Black Heritage stamp series. "It's a great honor," said Richard Griffin, a Diversity Committee specialist at the Palatine post office.

"Even though it is Black History Month, it is indeed American history and (what black Americans have done for this country) is something every American can be proud of." The stamp series, to be unveiled at a celebration Wednesday, honors 24 black activists, theorists, writers, educators and leaders, including Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., Benjamin Banneker, Jackie Robinson and the ceremony's...
