State EPA investigates dust complaints at S. Elgin quarry.(News)

Byline: Tom O'Konowitz Daily Herald Staff Writer A state agency now is investigating several complaints by South Elgin residents that excessive dust blows out of a local gravel mine and invades their neighborhood. Inspectors from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Bureau of Air have made two visits in the past two months to Fox River Stone Company, which is on McLean Boulevard near Route 31.
A spokeswoman said the agency is expected to rule next week whether Fox River Stone is in violation of the Environmental Protection Act or if its airborne dust causes a "nuisance" for nearby residents. "We have not issued any violations against the company at this point, and we don't have a record of any violations against them in recent years," said Kim...
