Squandering a million on mood rings and incense Government continues to find ways to whack taxpayers with wildly wasteful expenditures of their dollars, and here is yet another example. It would be laughable it wasn't so ludicrous. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development spent $1.1 million to boost the self-esteem of public housing residents by counseling them on what kind of gemstones they should select to give themselves a spiritual lift.
