Byline: Special to the Daily Herald Kentucky-based stakes winner Asher tops a field of seven distaffers entered for today's $150,000 Arlington Matron at Arlington Park. The Grade III Matron, at 1 1/8 miles on the main track, is the final graded event on Arlington's 2001 stakes schedule. Asher, who races in the colors of Dan White & Pepper Tree Farms, has won four of eight trips to the post year for seasonal earnings in excess of a quarter of a million dollars.
In addition to taking the Gardenia, the 4-year-old Mountain Cat filly captured the Paseana and Pippin stakes at Oaklawn Park and the Diamond Trail Stakes at Prairie Meadows. Last time out, the Ron Moquett-trained miss faded to seventh after pressing the pace in the Grade III Turfway Park Breeders'...
