MINI Cooper makes big return in 2002.(Auto Plus)

Byline: Dave Boe One of the vehicles taking center stage at the Tokyo Motor Show last week arrives in select Chicagoland showrooms in the Spring of 2002. And the big news is its rather diminutive stature. Germany's BMW Group early next year begins shipment of the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper "S" to the United States.

From front to back the vehicle measures 143.9 inches and 55.75 inches in height. It's powered by a four-cylinder, 163 horsepower engine with supercharger technology. This marks the second go around for the MINI here in the United States. Between 1960 and 1967, about 10,000 MINIs were sold, badged as the Austin 850 and Morris Mini Minor.
