Byline: Mick Zawislak Daily Herald Staff Writer The blue light at Kmart has dimmed as the nation's second largest discount retailer seeks bankruptcy protection and analysts are mixed on whether the company can restore its tattered image and survive the long haul. While it is a given Kmart eventually will close hundreds of unprofitable locations among its 2,113 U.S.
stores, it also has to establish an identity that will attract customers and clean up its act, so to speak, by making improvements at the stores that remain open.
