Girl picked as finalist in preteen pageant.(Neighbor)

- Alexandra Scarpello, 12, of Grayslake, has been chosen as a state finalist in the Miss Illinois Pre-Teen American Coed pageant, Friday and Saturday at the Wyndam Northwest Chicago hotel in Itasca. The winner of the pageant will receive a $500 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of flowers, and a travel allowance and sponsor fee to compete in the national pageant.

- The Gurnee Rotary Club awarded four, $750 vocational scholarships to local youth. The winners and their teacher sponsors were honored at the weekly breakfast, which is at 7:30 a.m. every Thursday at In-Laws Restaurant, Route 21 and Grand Avenue in Gurnee.
