Byline: Norrine Twohey Daily Herald Staff Writer Aurora University Spanish instructor Denise M. Hatcher won the 2001 Robert M. Smith award for excellence in adult education from Northern Illinois University. The award is sponsored by the university's Department of Counseling, Adult and Health Education.
It was named after the late Robert M. Smith, a professor who taught in the adult continuing education program at NIU for more than 40 years. Lombard native and current Aurora resident James R. Effner Jr. was appointed managing partner for The Effner Financial Group in Downers Grove, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's third network office in the Chicago area.
