Byline: Ted Cox What does it say that my 2002 Radio Station of the Year can't even be heard over most of the Chicago area - especially in the suburbs? Obviously, it says what an awful year it was in radio, which continued to consolidate ownership as stations tweaked and twisted an ever-decreasing overall play list to appeal to specifically targeted audiences.

The biggest music-format changes of the year were oldies WJMK 104.3-FM straying into '70s disco, while adult-contemporary WNND 100.3-FM went ever-so-slightly backward to the '80s. WCKG 105.9-FM brought in Kevin Matthews. Otherwise, stations stayed securely in their ruts.
