Byline: Russell Lissau and Mick Zawislak Daily Herald Staff Writers Financial support for some Lake County legislative candidates went far beyond the usual local fund-raisers last fall. State and national political organizations sunk hundreds of thousands of dollars into three key races for seats in the General Assembly - races that, in every case, were won by Democrats.
State Sen. Susan Garrett, state Sen. Terry Link and state Rep. Kathy Ryg each raised more money than their Republican opponents and ultimately were victorious Nov. 5. While Link primarily relied on independent donors to fill his war chest, much of Garrett's and Ryg's support came from fund-raising organizations within the Democratic Party.
