Byline: Veronica Gonzalez Daily Herald Staff Writer Metra's board of directors on Friday agreed to buy 50 acres in Elburn to begin building a long-awaited train station and storage yard that would allow the commuter rail authority to extend service west of Geneva. Metra is poised to buy the land east of Route 47 to the north of Keslinger Road from Terry Grove of the Grove/Elburn Partnership for $1.5 million.

Despite the expected land acquisition, Elburn still needs to annex part of the property and rezone it, Village President James Willey said. Metra plans to add a third line from Geneva as well as another station between Geneva and Elburn in LaFox. The tracks will be solely for Metra trains.
