Byline: Denise Perry Donavin Daily Herald Correspondent Elburn officials could choose a new method for reducing the amount of radium in the village's water. Village officials say the new treatment, called Z-88, would be cheaper than the ion exchange system that the village had planned to use.

With ion exchange, a water treatment facility would have to be built, but none would be needed with Z-88. A pilot study on the Z-88 system is under way at Well 4, which is near village hall, to reduce radium and gross alpha particles in the drinking water to meet new EPA standards. Complete results will be available in three weeks, but preliminary ones look promising according to Ron Dollar, of Water Remediation Technology, which is conducting the study at no cost to...
