A construction worker struck by lightning Thursday in a freak accident in Elgin remained at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood on Friday. Due to new medical reporting regulations, hospital officials would not release the condition of John Garcia, the 28-year-old sheet metal repairman from McHenry, but did confirm he still was at the hospital, to which he was airlifted Thursday afternoon.
Garcia was working in a utility room at Village Green of Elgin, 801 McLean Blvd., when lightning from a storm hit a nearby balcony and traveled into the utility room, striking him.
