Byline: Sarah McCammon Daily Herald Staff Writer Composed of artifacts from the terrorist attacks two years ago, a jagged sculpture of rock and steel rests along the west side of the Sept. 11 memorial. A steel beam from the World Trade Center, fragments of Pentagon rubble and granite from the Pennsylvania region where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field come together in a single structure to symbolize all the victims of that day.

"We wanted representation of all the areas, of all the sites of the tragedy," commission member Eugene Drendel said. Putting the pieces together wasn't easy.
