Daday Daily Herald Correspondent By day he is a Jesuit priest, living on the campus of Loyola University and teaching English as a Second Language to residents of the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Beginning Friday, however, the Rev. Gerald Walling will play against type as he brings to life the miserly holiday character of Ebenezer Scrooge, in "A Christmas Carol" at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights.

"He's such a curmudgeon; it's a wonderful role," Walling said. "It's perfect for me because he almost undergoes a religious conversion. He has a complete change of heart after he sees how selfish and cruel he's been." The Metropolis production opens with 8 p.m. previews Friday and Saturday and again at 3 p.m....
