Departments to get funds: Two Kane County fire departments are getting federal money to assist with training and equipment upgrades. Through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters program, the Carpentersville Fire Department will receive $211,000 and North Aurora Fire Department $96,000.
To qualify for the money, departments had to agree to match 10 percent to the 90 percent given by the Department of Homeland Security. The two were among 193 departments awarded funding in the latest round of safety grants, according to House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
