Byline: Eric Krol Daily Herald Political Writer Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas shook up the crowded Democratic U.S. Senate primary Friday by jumping into the race as a late entry. The two-term treasurer from Chicago becomes the most prominent of three female candidates in a race where several equally high- profile men already are spending millions of dollars on staff and TV ads five months before the March primary election.

A Pappas aide said the two-term treasurer filed her federal elections paperwork Friday and will formally kick off her campaign by mid-month.
