Josephine Fischer of Elgin A funeral Mass for Josephine Fischer, 86, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph's Church, 272 Division St., Elgin. Born April 9, 1917, in Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Benno and Jane (nee Doherty) Fischer, she died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at her home.

Josephine graduated from Elgin High School in 1931, Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Chicago in 1946 and DePaul University in 1966. She did her post graduate work at Margaret Hagne Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, N.J. in 1948. Josephine taught obstetrical nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital and Alexian Brothers School of Nursing, both in Chicago. She was the first supervisor of obstetrical nursing at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village and retired from the...
