Byline: Ames Boykin Alexian Brothers Medical Center honored its doctor of the year and gave accolades to another physician who has shown she is committed to caring. Dr. Phillip Cacioppo, a general surgeon, won the hospital's physician of the year award for his professional skills and maintaining the highest level of respect and compassion for patients.

Cacioppo is a Loyola University graduate who has worked at Alexian Brothers since 1976. Cacioppo received the hospital's Pelican Award in 1994. Dr. Bonita Alexander, who works at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Alexian Brothers, won this year's Pelican Award for the Legacy of Caring.
