Byline: Tim Sassone Daily Herald Sports Writer Bruce Cassidy, fired as head coach of the Washington Capitals last month, has been hired by the Blackhawks as a pro scout. Cassidy, 38, is the first scout hired by assistant general manager Dale Tallon since the firing of GM Mike Smith and his staff of assistant Nick Beverley, director of player evaluation Marshall Johnston, director of amateur scouting Bill Lesuk and scout Joe Yannetti in late October.

Tallon is overseeing the Hawks' amateur scouting department until he takes over as general manager, likely after the season.
