Byline: Lisa Smith Daily Herald Staff Writer Julie and Mike Denker planned to spend New Year's Day, like many other Americans, watching football and eating chili at their St. Charles home. But little Keira Indie had other plans. The 7-pound, 7-ounce baby girl came into the world a day early, becoming the first baby born in the Tri-Cities in 2004.
"She just couldn't wait," 33-year-old Julie Denker said of her new daughter. It's as if she knew about all the gifts awaiting the first baby of the new year: a handmade white blanket, pink teddy bears, a lullaby CD, a $100 Babies 'R' Us gift certificate and an assortment of other presents wrapped in a large basket, delivered to her room by the Delnor-Community Hospital Auxiliary.
