Nicole Viltz, 14, of Grayslake, has qualified for the Level 9 Junior Olympic National Meet. Viltz, a freshman at Carmel High School, has been training in gymnastics for seven years. All that hard work paid off when she competed recently at the Regional Meet, held at Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich.
Competing against top qualifiers from the state meet, only the top 14 qualified for the National Meet to be held April 23 and 24 in Virginia Beach, Va. Viltz scored 9.475 on floor, placing eighth; 9.175 on vault, placing fifth; 9.0 on beam, and 8.55 on bars, for a total all around score of 36.203, 12th place overall.
