Byline: Amy McLaughlin Daily Herald Staff Writer William J. Schneider, Des Plaines' economic develop-ment director for the last four years, has agreed to step down from his job after it came to light last week that he went to prison for stealing money from a prominent Chicago real estate firm.
Des Plaines aldermen agreed late Thursday to authorize City Manager Dave Niemeyer to work out a separation agreement or essentially a settlement to let Schneider leave the job that pays nearly $90,000 annually. "I met with Bill today and we both agreed this was the way to go," Niemeyer said Thursday, but he would not elaborate. Schneider, who could not be reached Thursday night, will continue on paid administrative leave until both sides reach a settlement....
