Driscoll prom leaves kids all dressed up with no place to go.(News)

Byline: Catherine Edman Daily Herald Staff Writer Kara Franken hadn't planned to spend prom at Steak 'n Shake. In fact, the Driscoll Catholic High School senior spent considerable time, energy and money on an evening that was supposed to start with dinner and dancing and end with three hours at Chicago's ESPN Zone.

The dinner and dancing part worked out. But when buses failed to arrive as expected, 202 teenagers were stranded at midnight - in gowns and tuxedos - with no way to get to the second half of their prom. Eventually, once all the parents were called, the students left, their evening cut abruptly short. "The sad part is the memories," said parent Colleen Kolber, whose son was among those marooned at the banquet hall. "They won't have them....
