Byline: Kara Spak Daily Herald Staff Writer Wheelchair bound and hard of hearing, 75-year-old convicted swindler Betty Gooch learned Friday she likely won't be going home June 30 when her prison sentence is complete. Instead, Gooch will be transferred to Cook County jail to await a July 21 jury trial on charges she wrote two bad checks totaling $56,575 to an Elgin car dealership.

Gooch, of 15 Sunset Lane, Algonquin, is accused of writing the rubber checks for a Toyota car and minivan while facing similar charges in McHenry County. If she pleads guilty, as she did in McHenry County, her attorney will have little leeway to broker her probation or a prison sentence of less than the three-year minimum because she was on bond when it is alleged that she...
