Dominick's chief opts to check out after a year.(Business)

Byline: Mike Comerford Daily Herald Business Writer R. Randall Onstead Jr. is stepping down as president of Dominick's Finer Foods about a year after being appointed to lead its turnaround. The Oak Brook-based subsidiary of Safeway Inc. said veteran Safeway executive Bruce Everette will assume Onstead's duties while remaining one of Safeway's top five executives.
A Dominick's official said Everette will continue to have the local autonomy enjoyed by Onstead but did not indicate what changes he is contemplating for the struggling chain. The company said Onstead is leaving to handle his family's estate back in Texas following the recent sudden death of his father, Randall Onstead.
