United lowers costs by joining Orbitz ELK GROVE VILLAGE - United Airlines said Monday it will lower its distribution costs by signing an agreement with Chicago-based Orbitz that allows the airline to use the low-fare Web site's Supplier Link technology. The technology lets Orbitz book tickets directly through United's reservation system, as compared to the old system, where Orbitz would have to go through a global distribution system.
In the former system, United would have to pay for each ticket issued via the system. Now, United can pay a smaller fee to Orbitz - $4 compared to the $12.50 to $14 global distribution systems charge - to book tickets directly. The change comes immediately as part of United's restructuring efforts, the company said. Orbitz said...
