Once a company solely focused on building small cars to battle fuel- efficient imports, the mission statement has been re-written. Saturn now strives to be a full-line operation. When Saturn arrived in the early 1990s, the company struck a chord with shoppers thanks to a no-hassle pricing structure where the window sticker price is non-negotiable (although items such as the value of a trade in are still open to interpretation).

Many shoppers, especially women, welcomed this less-confrontational philosophy. Saturn also created a friendly post-purchase atmosphere, helping it to score better than average in industry- wide customer satisfaction surveys....
