Daday Daily Herald Correspondent When an 18-year old leukemia patient from Loyola University Medical Center confided that she would like to wear a wig, her social worker, Shelia Vetter, knew where to turn: the Beauty Image Center in Hanover Park. Within a day, shop owner LaVese Connor visited the patient at her bedside to show her some stylish options.

By partnering with officials at Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation in Arlington Heights, who will foot the bill, Connor expects to have the young girl fitted with a cranial prothesis, or wig, in no time. "For a teenage girl, her hair is such a symbol of who she is," said Vetter, pediatric oncology social worker. "Not to have it, is the one concrete sign that she is sick."...
