Byline: Tona Kunz Daily Herald Staff Writer When people mention Walter Sava, one phrase always comes up: role model. Everyone who knew him seemed to learn something about living a better life from the longtime St. Charles native who died Tuesday at age 75 surrounded by family in his home.

For his neighbors, he showed how to balance a career and a life of public service with his role as a loving father, husband and friend. He was the man who offered to help others fix their homes and lent neighborhood children his ear when no one else would.
