Byline: John Radtke Daily Herald Sports Writer When Melissa Parker's coaching days were over at Loyola University, one thing she hoped for was to land a job in the Chicago area. Done. Parker, the former Elgin High and University of Illinois standout, was hired Tuesday as an assistant women's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University.
She joins the staff of new Huskies' coach and former NIU star Carol Owens, which also includes Chicago native, NIU graduate and former WNBA player E.C. Hill, as well as Molly Murray, who formerly played at Michigan. NIU also hired Leah Frierson as director of women's basketball operations Tuesday.
