Newspaper owner's acquisition closes NORTHBROOK - The acquisition of Liberty Group Publishing Inc. by a Fortress Investment Group LLC affiliate is official, Liberty said on Monday. The deal to merge Liberty with the alternative investment and asset management firm's affiliate was announced last month.
Liberty, which publishes a variety of local newspapers in 15 states including Illinois, was sold by Leonard Green & Partners, LP, a private merchant banking firm headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif., for undisclosed terms.
